On June 19, 2012 the U.S. Senate committee on the Judiciary, Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Human Rights held a hearing on issues concerning solitary confinement.

Over 250 audience members attended, and over 90 organizations and individuals submitted written statements in advance of the hearing – including the Vera Institute of Justice, American Friends Service Committee, American Bar Assocation, Just Detention International, the Center for Constitutional Rights, Human Rights Watch, the Innocence Project, the ACLU and several ACLU Chapters, Solitary Watch, Physicians for Human Rights and many more.
